Autocad | Layer viewport freeze

Hi everyone, my name is Michele.

And in today’s autocad tutorial

I’m going to show you how to print

out different parts of your drawing

for example, this whole flower

print out the petals,

in exactly the same position,

leaves,

and stalk,

separately in different layout or pages.

without affecting the original drawing in model space.

Ok! This is the page layout with the complete picture, the whole flower.

with the stalk, and the centre and the leaves.

and this is the model space where you do the original drawing in 1:1 scale.

When you to print it out in different pieces of paper but you want them to be in exactly the same position

For example, the leaves are still here, the stalk is still here, the petals are still here,

You need to give them(pages) the same paper size and same viewport scale.

So the viewport scale I have locked them in is

1 to 1.

and then from here,

Press this button to lock or unlock (the viewport for this page).

And then duplicate it.

Let’s say I want to rename this as petals.

And we’re only going to display petals.

Now we are going to freeze, layer freeze.

This is the button that you need to press.

Ok, before you press the button, you need to activate the model space.

And then click on the layer freeze.

So this is the petals layer, petals page.

So I’m going to freeze all, freeze means turn off.

Turn off, turn off, turn off and turn off.

All the other layers except petals.

Then when I’m done I press Esc

and double click outside the Model space.

So it’s done.

And then let’s do another one for leaves.

Duplicate the complete drawing.

And rename it as,

Rename is as,

leaves.

So double-click the Model space to activate it.

And then click on layer freeze, and freeze everything except the leaves.

Turn off everything except the leaves.

Let’s check the Model space,

when we use this command, it doesn’t affect the original drawing.

If you freeze the layer here it will affect all the drawings in the page layout.

So we don’t want that, we just want to turn off the layers in the pages.

So…

Undo it by clicking the star sign next to the petals layer.

and then let’s do another one for the stalk.

Rename it as stalk.

Double click on the Model space.

You can use the command, if you want,

LAYFRZ then spacebar.

and then the command line will ask you if you want to change the setting.

Let’s change the setting.

Enter setting type for,

Whether you want to select…whether you want to freeze the viewport or the block selection of item.

So we want to freeze the viewport, so we,

type in V

Freeze in…. viewport freeze.

Viewport..VPfreeze.

Its….by default it’s viewport freeze.

You can use that and press….you can continue to press spacebar.

Select an object on the layer.

So right now this is the stalk layer, so we will select

Everything except the stalk layer.

After that we check on the model space,

yes, it’s not affected, so, stalk layer

Petals layer,

Leaves layer

and they are exactly at the same position as the page with the complete drawing.
